For one week in June, the Maryland State Fireman's Association hosts its Annual Convention in Ocean City, Maryland. During the convention, there are many training opportunities for not only the fire service, but also EMS. Of course, one of the highlights comes Wednesday afternoon with the Fireman's Parade. A crew of two from Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad left around 3:30 in the morning to line up for the parade with Ambulance 799, leaving a crew and two ambulances to answer calls. Once lined up for the parade, the crew began removing the bugs that really seemed to be attracted to A-799. Once A-799 completed the parade, the crew immediately began the journey home. The hard work by the members paid off as Ambulance 799 was awarded First Honorable Mention in the parade. We would also like to congratulate our neighbors across the Patuxent River, Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department for placing First with their newest Ambulance 38, and our Charles County neighbors, Dentsville Volunteer Rescue Squad for placing Second with their Ambulance 158. Finally, we would like to congratulate our neighbors right here in Hollywood, the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department for their numerous awards with the biggest being the Chief Marvin Gibbons Award for being the Best Appearing Company in Maryland.
