HVRS is looking for Cadets!!!

November 15 - The Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad has been fortunate enough to have an active Cadet program for the past 20 years. The Cadet program is for young ladies and gentlemen between the ages of 12 and 16 (although we do allow some as young as 10 to participate), that are interested in learning about becomming Emergency Medical Providers.

The Cadets usually meet once a month (dates to be determined), and they are taught a variety of skills such as CPR, Basic First Aid, Splinting, and how to care for and treat other injuries or illnesses. Field trips may be taken to visit the Emergency Dispatch Center, Maryland State Police Aviation- Trooper 7 and the Emergency Room.

Cadets may also, on occassion, be asked to assist with the Squad member's drill/ training nights.

If you or someone that you know are interested interested in participating with the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad by becoming a Cadet- please contact Lieutentant Kimberly Sullivan @ 240-538-2494.

The next meeting of the Cadets will be held on Sunday, December 13th at 12pm at the Squad building.




Cub Scout Pack 420 Visits the Squad!

November 2 - On Monday, November 2nd, 2009 we were visited by Cub Scout Pack #420. These young men were eager to learn and hear all about becoming Emergency Providers. Squad members Barbara Wible, Charlie Russell, Kelley Rhodes and Kimberly Sullivan were on hand to discuss "how" and "who" to call in case on an emergency. The scouts also learned about Hypothermia and were given the opportunity to "provide care" to one of their fellow pack members in the event of a hypothermic emergency. Scouts Visit HVRS

September 21 - On Monday, September 21, Webelos Scout #1785 visited the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad. The scouts were given a tour, inside and outside, of Ambulance 799. Captain Kelley Rhodes and 1st Lieutenant Barbara Wible demonstrated various equipment the EMT's use when responding on calls. The scouts tried on turn-out gear and helmets. They also learned how to splint an injured arm. Bags containing magnets, pencils, bracelets and other EMS material were given to the scouts. May 25 - There is a popular idiom in the United States that expresses gratitude for the service of members of the military. "Freedom isn't Free" implicitly states that the freedoms enjoyed by many citizens in the U.S. are only possible through the voluntary risks taken and sacrifices made by the military.

EMS Supports Pax River Air show

May 24 - Crews from all EMS stations assisted Patuxent River Naval Air Station with the 2009 Air Expo by providing first aid services. Thousands of people attended the two day event. The Air Expo provided static and interactive displays. The Blue Angels were the highlight of each day, providing precision flying for the crowd.
